Why does the water pipe in my refrigerator freeze?
Apparently this is a fairly common problem with frozen water distribution lines in GE refrigerators and other side-by-side refrigerators. There appears to be a problem with the door insulation, which absorbs too much moisture and prevents the duct from insulating enough to prevent freezing. What causes the refrigerator water pipe to freeze in this context?
The two main reasons why the pipe in the door can freeze are if the freezer is too cold (below freezing) or a cavity in the door insulation. To check the temperature, place a thermometer between some packages. If it gets too cold, this is usually corrected by turning the control to a warmer setting. How to remove a clogged water pipe from the refrigerator?
